The Costa Calida and the Mar MenorCosta Calida:
Roda Golf Resort is located on the Costa Calida, on Spain's South Eastern coast.
Located South of the better known Costa Blanca, the Costa Calida is the coastline of Murcia and stretches from
El Mojón (just south of Pilar de la Horadada) in the North to Águilas in the South.
With miles of sandy beaches, around 320 days of sunshine per year and an average annual temperature of 21ºC, the
Costa Calida is the ideal spot to have a fantastic holiday.
The area is hugely diverse, it's not just about beaches and golf! There are mountain ranges just a few miles inland with spectacular scenery and the historic cities of Murcia and Cartagena are within easy reach. It is also one of the most important spots in the world for sports lovers - water sports abound including swimming, sailing, scuba diving and water skiing, as well as many other activities including tennis, trekking and rock climbing. So have a look here for Things To Do.
The jewel of the Costa Calida is the Mar Menor - a truly unique place.
It's an enclosed lagoon with no dangerous currents making the water safe for children of any age. It has warm, shallow waters which are always
3-4oc warmer than the Mediterranean and the beaches are great - clean and sandy and many have the prestigious "Blue Flag" award. As well as being shallow, they are gently shelving making them good for young children.
During the summer months, there are life guards and "Cruz Roja" (Red Cross) stations along the beaches of the Mar Menor.
There are so many miles of beach that you can always find a quiet spot, even in August, or if you want a bit more fun head for one of the beach bars in Los Alcázares. These bars, known as "chiringuitos", have tapas and snacks to keep you going throughout the day - all at reasonable prices.
Have a look here for more information on local beaches.

The hub of this part of the Mar Menor is the town of Los Alcázares - situated on the beach just 2 km from Roda, it has everything you could wish for for an enjoyable holiday.
Have a look here for more information on Los Alcázares.
In Los Narejos centre there are a number of bars, restaurants and shops including a pharmacy which is about 1.5 km away from Roda with the beach being a further 500m.
Although there are limited facilities on the beach, there are a few beach bars that serve reasonably priced tapas, snacks and burgers.
As this is a Spanish holiday town, in the Spring and Autumn it can be virtually deserted. So watch out - it can also mean the bars are closed!
Los Narejos is the furthest North of the Los Alcázares beaches.
The promenade starts here and stretches for 8km passing all the other beach areas of Los Alcázares. Los Narejos is my favourite beach!

This is one of our favourite spots in the area, a fishing village that grew as a prime holiday destination for wealthy Murcians who built their houses along the coast. Santiago has a lovely promenade flanked by attractive palm trees. Today Santiago is still popular with the Spanish for their vacations but also attracts tourists from all over Europe and although it has a modern air, it has still maintained its "fishing village" atmosphere.
It has a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. The recently refurbished promenade with its palm trees houses the yacht club and sailing school.
The ferry to Puerto Tomas Maestre on La Manga departs from the pier.
Santiago de la Ribera boasts a popular water-sports centre and sailing club so with it's superb safe beaches, sailing,
water skiing, boat hire, wind surfing, fishing, cycling, a sports center, and scuba diving .....
It's a great place to visit .....
Nearby is the town of Lo Pagan, a visit is a must to take in the famous mud baths.
The mud has been renowned from early times for its healing powers and is said to be a cure for many things
including skin conditions, wound healing, for its anti-inflammatory effect on rheumatism, arthritis, gout and for rehabilitation after a bone fracture.
The mud is applied over the body and allowed to dry in the sun before being washed off in the salt waters.
Lo Pagan is next door to San Pedro del Pinatar where you will find a couple of Spa Hotels.
Thalasia Hotel & Thalasso Center and Hotel Barceló Lodomar & Thalassotherapy center
Both offer a range of treatments using algae and mud from the Mar Menor. Plus salt water pools.
Not cheap – but well worth it if you really want to pamper yourself.
Remember to take your phrase book with you as there is not much English spoken in Dolores.
